C. Disinfection Byproducts and Disinfectants. The best available technology, treatment technique, or other means available for each contaminant listed in Regulations .07F and .23C of this chapter is specified in the following table:

Disinfection ByproductBest Available Technology
TTHM, HAA5Primary Systems: Enhanced coagulation or enhanced softening or GAC10, with chlorine as the primary and residual disinfectant.
Primary systems that disinfect their source water: Enhanced coagulation or enhanced softening, plus GAC10; or nanofiltration with a molecular weight cutoff not greater than or equal to 1,000 Daltons; or GAC20.
Consecutive systems that receive disinfected water:Systems serving 10,000 or more: Improved distribution system and storage tank management to reduce residence time, plus the use of chloramines for disinfectant residual maintenance.
Systems serving less than 10,000: Improved distribution system and storage tank management to reduce residence time.
BromateControl of ozone treatment process to reduce production of bromate.
ChloriteControl of treatment processes to reduce disinfectant demand and control of disinfection treatment processes to reduce disinfectant levels.
Maximum residual disinfectant levelsControl of treatment processes to reduce disinfectant demand and control of disinfection treatment processes to reduce disinfectant levels.
