Section 163-23-1 - Definitions1. "Automated external defibrillator" or "AED" means a medical device that combines a heart monitor and a defibrillator approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration that: a. Is capable of recognizing the presence or absence of ventricular fibrillation or rapid ventricular tachycardia.b. Is capable of determining, without intervention by an operator, whether defibrillation should be performed on an individual; andc. Upon determination that defibrillation should be performed, automatically charges and requests delivery of an electrical impulse to an individual's heart.2. "Automated external defibrillator registry" means a registry of publicly accessible automated external defibrillators, as defined above, that are located within the State for the purpose of assisting a person or a law enforcement officer, firefighter or emergency medical services person who calls for assistance in an emergency situation.3. "Registrant" means the individual that has the responsibility of maintaining the functionality of the fully automated external defibrillator entered into the registry.16-163 C.M.R. ch. 23, § 1
