Section 146-5-5 - Registration of DeathsA. The funeral director or authorized person shall ensure that a completed death certificate is registered, by filing with the clerk of the municipality where death occurred, within five days after the day on which death occurred unless there are unusual extenuating circumstances.B. Certificates originating with the funeral director or other authorized person: The certifying physician must complete the certificate and present or mail it to the funeral director or other authorized person within 24 hours after receipt.C. Certificates originating with the physician: The physician may originate the certificate. Such certificates must be completed, signed, and presented or mailed to the funeral director or other authorized person within 48 hours after death.D. Certified copies of a death certificate may be made only from records for which the registration process is complete.10- 146 C.M.R. ch. 5, § 5
