Section 144-709-7.0 - RESPONSIBILITY OF THOSE PROVIDING PEDIATRIC SERVICES7.1 Any primary health care provider in Maine who examines an infant for the first time in the first month of life should determine whether the child has been screened for CCHD by checking the infant's medical records or, if necessary, contacting the Maine CDC Birth Defects Program. If the health care provider determines that no screening has been performed, the provider shall screen the infant for CCHD and report the results to the Department unless parent(s) have a religious objection. 7.2 Any physician or other health care provider subject to these rules who has identified a case of a child presenting with, or suspected of having, a critical congenital heart defect or other heart defect shall notify the Maine CDC Birth Defects Program of such condition including method of determining diagnosis, by submitting a Confidential Medical Report to the Maine CDC Birth Defects Program within 5 working days of the identification.10- 144 C.M.R. ch. 709, § 7.0
