Section XLV-7201 - Preamble and Scope of Subchapter
A. Pursuant to Act 11 of the 2004 session of the Louisiana Legislature, the Louisiana Psychology Practice Act was amended to include, among other items, R.S. 37:2375 C(1), which provides: "A medical psychologist holding a valid certificate to prescribe shall prescribe only in consultation and collaboration with the patient's primary or attending physician, and with the concurrence of that physician. The medical psychologist shall also re-consult with the patient's physician prior to making changes in the patient's medication regimen, including dosage adjustments, adding or discontinuing a medication. The medical psychologist and the physician shall document the consultation in the patient's medical record."
B. Pursuant to the authority granted by R.S. 37:1270(B)(6), and in the interest of promoting the public health, safety, and welfare, the rules of this Chapter are adopted by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners to govern the practice of physicians in this state who consult and collaborate with a medical psychologist with respect to a patient of the physician.
