Section CXI-1113 - Achievement LevelsA.1. The Louisiana achievement levels are: d. approaching basic; and2. Though the names of the achievement levels differ slightly from those detailed in the NCLB Act, the definitions are similar. The definitions of the Louisiana achievement levels are also consistent with the definitions of basic, proficient, and advanced in English language arts and mathematics for NAEP.B. Achievement Level Definitions 1.Advanced-a student at this level has demonstrated superior performance beyond the mastery level.2.Mastery (formerly Proficient) -a student at this level has demonstrated competency over challenging subject matter and is well prepared for the next level of schooling.3.Basic -a student at this level has demonstrated only the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling.4.Approaching Basic-a student at this level has only partially demonstrated the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling.5.Unsatisfactory-a student at this level has not demonstrated the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling.La.
