Section 28-35-501 - Previously approved type B package(a)(1) Any type B package previously approved by the NRC but not designated as "B(U)," "B(M)," "B(U)F," or "B(M)F" in the identification number of the NRC CoC and any type AF package approved by the NRC before September 6, 1983 may be used under the general license specified in K.A.R. 28-35-500(a), if the following additional provisions are met: (A) The fabrication of the packaging was satisfactorily completed by August 31, 1986, as demonstrated by application of the model number on the package in accordance with 10 CFR 71.85(c). (B) A serial number is assigned that is a unique identifier of each package that conforms to the approved design. The serial number shall be legibly and durably marked on the outside of each package. (2) This subsection shall not apply to type B packages after October 1, 2008. (b) Any type B(U) package, type B(M) package, or fissile material package may be used under the general license specified in K.A.R. 28-35-500(a), if the following provisions are met: (1) The package has been previously approved by the NRC and does not have the designation "-85" in the identification number of the NRC CoC. (2) The fabrication of the package was satisfactorily completed on or before April 1, 1999, as demonstrated by the application of the model number on the package in accordance with 10 CFR 71.85(c). (3) The package used for a shipment to a location outside the United States is subject to multilateral approval as defined in the U.S. DOT regulations specified in 49 CFR 173.403. (4) A serial number is assigned that is a unique identifier of the package conforming to the approved design. The serial number shall be legibly and durably marked on the outside of the package. Kan.
