The head of the office is the state chief information officer, who is appointed by the governor with the approval of two-thirds of the members of the senate. The CIO serves at the pleasure of the governor.
The CIO has the statutory authority to designate an employee of the office to carry out the powers and duties of the CIO in the absence of the CIO or due to the inability of the CIO to do so.
