(a) Supporting documentation requirements for the MDS data elements used to classify nursing facility residents under the resident classification system are contained in the MDS and Case Mix Supportive Documentation Manual. Additional guidance may be published as a provider bulletin and updated by the office as needed. Updates shall be made effective not earlier than permitted under IC 12-15-13-6(a).(b) Nursing facilities shall maintain supporting documentation in a resident's medical chart for the MDS data elements used to classify nursing facility residents under the resident classification system.
