Section 332.170 - Protection of the General Population from Radiationa) At all times, concentrations of radioactive material, excluding radon, thoron and their progeny, which may be released to the general environment in groundwater, surface water, air, soil or other means:1) Shall not result in an annual dose equivalent in excess of 25 millirem (0.25 mSv) to the whole body of any member of the public; and2) Shall not result in an annual dose equivalent in excess of 75 millirem (0.75 mSv) to the thyroid or 25 millirem (0.25 mSv) to any other organ of any member of the public.b) Releases of radionuclides in effluents to the general environment shall be maintained as low as is reasonably achievable.c) During the operating life and facility decommissioning, the dose to any member of the public shall not exceed the limits specified in 32 Ill. Adm. Code 340.310.d) The disposal area shall be designed so that after reclamation and stabilization, the annual total radon release rate through the cover from the byproduct material shall not exceed two picocuries per square meter per second. Furthermore, the direct gamma exposure rate from the byproduct material shall be reduced to background levels normal for areas in the vicinity.Ill. Admin. Code tit. 32, § 332.170
