Section 8-30-2 - Tuition schedule of regular and special education summer school programs(a) The tuition shall be established by the superintendent of the department, upon approval by the board. Any adjustment shall be applied to the next scheduled summer school session and shall not be applied retroactively to tuition fees already collected.(b) Tuition shall be paid prior to the first session of a summer school class. The director of a summer school may authorize delayed tuition payments in justifiable cases of hardship.(c) Tuition payments shall be refunded according to the following schedule for a six-week session: (1) Full refund -- Prior to the first day of summer school;(2) Fifty per cent refund -- Up to the first week of summer school;(3) Twenty-five per cent refund -- Up to the second week of summer school;(4) No refund shall be made after the second week of summer school.(d) Tuition payments shall be refunded according to the following schedule for a three-week session: (1) Full refund -- Prior to the first day of summer school;(2) Thirty-five per cent refund -- Up to the first week of summer school;(3) No refund shall be made after the first week of summer school.(e) Tuition payments may be waived by the district superintendent or designee according to the following criteria, on a first-come-first-served basis, provided state appropriated funds are made available to cover the tuition waivers: (1) Student received free lunch or milk during the preceding regular school year by reasons of family income or hardship;(2) Student received free bus transportation during the preceding regular school year by reason of public assistance;(3) Current eligibility for state public assistance, or(4) Family size and annual family gross income schedule established by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture for the provision of free school lunch or milk or both, to students in the preceding regular school year.[Eff. 8/22/83; am 8/28/1986; am and comp 5/17/2010] (Auth: HRS § 302A-1112) (Imp: HRS §§ 302A-1112, 302A-1310)
