Rule 160-1-4-.274 - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance Grants1. Purpose of Grant. The purpose of this grant is to improve the infrastructure in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and to aid the national economy by providing federal funds made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to local education agencies to purchase equipment for use in the NSLP.2. Term and Conditions. Recipients must meet the federal eligibility criteria specified in Public Law 111-5 and state criteria including application requirements and deadlines for expenditure. Recipients must follow all applicable federal and state procurement requirements. Recipients must justify the degree of need of the equipment and identify the focus area(s) of the requested equipment.3. Eligible Recipients. Local Education Agencies that operate the National School Lunch Program, have 50 percent or more of its students eligible for free or reduced-price meals, and have the ability to spend the grant award within three (3) months of the award are eligible to apply.4. Criteria for Award. Applications are reviewed by the Georgia Department of Education for adherence to the terms and conditions described above. Grant awards will be based on percentages of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals, the equipment's priority need, and the estimated cost for the equipment needed.5.
