Rule 8-B1305 - SICK LEAVE: ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF AND NON-TEACHING FACULTY
1305.1

The following employees shall accrue and be charged sick leave.

(a) Regular staff (those hired for six (6) months or longer on a continuing basis, either full-time or part-time for at least twenty (20) hours per week) administrative employees; and
(b) Non-teaching faculty, media specialists, and librarians.
1305.2

Sick leave shall not accrue during any month during which an employee is paid less than half-time (averages less than twenty (20) hours per week) or during any of the following:

(a) Receipt of long term disability benefits;
(b) Leave without pay; or
(c) Vacation leave paid or taken after the last day of work.
1305.3

Employees entitled to accrue sick leave shall be credited at the beginning of each month of regular full-time employment with eight hours of sick leave, to a maximum of twelve (12) working days per year.

1305.4

There shall be no limit on the amount of sick leave which may be accumulated.

1305.5

Sick leave shall be credited on a proportionate basis for any month in which a regular employee is paid less than full-time but averages at least twenty (20) hours or more per week.

1305.6

After the exhaustion of all accumulated sick leave and vacation leave, an employee may request advanced sick leave not to exceed the annual accrual of sick leave (a maximum of twelve (12) days) and total available vacation leave.

1305.7

Sick leave advanced shall be repaid as soon as it begins to accrue.

1305.8

When an employee retires at sixty (60) years of age or older, or upon total disability or death, the employee (or the deceased employee's estate) shall receive a lump sum payment equal to ten percent (10%) of the unused accumulated sick leave computed at the employee's current base rate of pay.

1305.9

If an employee is hospitalized or confined to bed under the care of a physician during a vacation period, the period of hospitalization or confinement may be charged as sick leave.

1305.10

If a regular University holiday occurs during a period of sick leave, the time shall not be charged as sick leave.

1305.11

Absences caused by work connected disability shall be compensated as provided under Worker's Compensation.
