Rule 6-C1261 - FUNERAL LEAVE
1261.1

In accordance with the Funeral and Memorial Service Leave Amendment Act of

2013 (D.C. Law 20-83; D.C. Official Code § 1-612.03(n)) , effective February 22, 2014, an employee shall be entitled to not more than three (3) days of authorized absence without loss of or reduction in pay, or leave to which otherwise entitled, or credit for time or service, to make arrangements for, or attend the funeral of, or memorial service for, an immediate relative, as defined in section 1299 of the chapter.

1261.2

Unless the mission of the agency would be seriously impaired, OAG shall grant an employee's request for annual leave, sick leave, exempt time off or compensatory time up to three (3) days upon the death of an immediate relative.

1261.3

The days requested for funeral leave need not be consecutive, but if they are not consecutive, the employee shall furnish the approving authority satisfactory reasons justifying the granting of funeral leave for nonconsecutive days.

1261.4

OAG may grant funeral leave only from a prescribed tour of duty, including regularly scheduled overtime, from a period during which the employee would have worked, except for absence on funeral leave.
