The provisions of this chapter shall be applicable to the construction, maintenance, and abandonment of wells in the District of Columbia, pursuant to the Water Pollution Control Act of 1984, effective March 16, 1985 (D.C. Law 5-188; D.C. Official Code §§ 8-103.01 et seq.).
The purpose of this chapter is to ensure that the construction, maintenance, and abandonment of a well is undertaken in a manner that protects public health and safety and the environment.
