A practitioner of professional art therapy shall comply with the then-current standards of ethical and professional conduct as set out in the Code of Ethics, Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedures of the ATCB and the Ethical Principles for Art Therapists, adopted by the AATA.
A practitioner shall provide in an initial meeting with a client an informed consent form, to be signed by both parties, which shall notify the client of their rights and the risks involved during the therapy.
The following documentation shall be maintained for each session between a practitioner and the client:
A practitioner shall comply with D.C. Official Code § 7-1201.01et seq. and maintain the privacy and confidentiality of a client and a client's records, including session documentation and all verbal or artistic expression occurring within the client-therapist relationship. A practitioner shall not disclose confidential information without the explicit written consent of the client, or the client's parent or guardian as applicable, unless mandated by law or a court order.
