Rule 10-B2899 - DEFINITIONS
2899.1

When used in this chapter, the following terms and phrase shall have the meanings ascribed:

Applicant - a person who, as an individual, applies for certification as a Registered Land Surveyor.

Construction layout - survey work associated specifically with defining or establishing control lines or points for use by a contractor for building purposes.

D.C. Surveyor or Surveyor - the person in charge of the Office of the Surveyor.

Office of the Surveyor - the office under the D.C. Surveyor and the legal office of record relative to real property surveys, wall examinations and the subdivision of real property.

Qualifying practical experience - work on property line surveying in the District of Columbia wherein the applicant was responsible for researching and interpreting pertinent surveying records of the Office of the Surveyor and in the execution of office and field work requiring the exercise of independent judgment and initiative without first referring to higher authority for approval, except where approval is a matter of form, and which is of a character determined by the D.C. Surveyor to meet the time requirement specified for qualifying practical experience under § 2803.4.

Registered Land Surveyor - any individual, including a person who is a civil engineer registered in the District of Columbia, who is approved and permitted by the D.C. Surveyor to prepare and certify real property surveys and to perform wall examinations pursuant to this chapter.

Under the direction of the Surveyor - performing surveys and wall examinations pursuant to the rules of this chapter.
