2 Del. Admin. Code § 2B.70

Current through Register Vol. 28, No. 5, November 1, 2024
Section 2B.70 - Engine Compression Brake Prohibition Sign (SR1-19-DE)

Guidance:

01 (DE Revision) Engine Compression Brake Prohibition (SR1-19-DE) signs should be installed at all major points of entry into the state and along designated truck routes entering the state to inform motorists of their responsibilities under §4303 of Title 21 of the Delaware Code, which restricts the use of engine exhaust braking systems except in emergency braking situations.

Support:

02 (DE Revision) Major points of entry include Interstate, U.S. route, and State Route crossings of the state line. Truck routes consist of those with a formal designation as a truck route.

Standard:

03 (DE Revision) SR1-19-DE signs shall have a black legend and border on a white background. SR1-19-DE signs shall also have an informational plaque at the top of the sign with the black legend, TRUCKS, on a yellow background (see Figure 2B-33).

Guidance:

04 (DE Revision) When installed along multi-lane divided highways, SR 1-19-DE signs should be installed on both the right-hand and left-hand sides of the roadway when adequate space is available.
05 (DE Revision) SR1-19-DE signs should be located as close to the state line as possible and before the first intersecting roadway or interchange if adequate space is available.
06 Since SR1-19-DE signs do not pertain to a specific location, the signs, when used, should be located in open areas away from other signing to more easily attract the attention of motorists.

Option:

07 (DE Revision) SR1-19-DE signs may be installed on roads entering cities, towns, and municipalities at the request of the local government.

Standard:

08 (DE Revision) The cost to install and maintain SR1-19-DE signs located on roads entering cities, towns, and municipalities shall be the responsibility of the local government requesting the signs.
