Section 2B.51 - Pedestrian Crossing Signs (R9-2, R9-3)Option:
01 Pedestrian Crossing signs (see Figure 2B-26) may be used to limit pedestrian crossing to specific locations. Standard:
02 If used, Pedestrian Crossing signs shall be installed to face pedestrian approaches. Option:
03 Where crosswalks are clearly defined, the CROSS ONLY AT CROSSWALKS (R9-2) sign may be used to prohibit pedestrians from crossing at locations away from crosswalks.04 The No Pedestrian Crossing (R9-3) sign may be used to prohibit pedestrians from crossing a roadway at an undesirable location or in front of a school or other public building where a crossing is not designated.05 The NO PEDESTRIAN CROSSING (R9-3a) word message sign may be used as an alternate to the R9-3 symbol sign. The USE CROSSWALK (R9-3bP) supplemental plaque, along with an arrow, may be installed below either sign to designate the direction of the crossing. Support:
06 One of the most frequent uses of the Pedestrian Crossing signs is at signalized intersections that have three crossings that can be used and one leg that cannot be crossed. Guidance:
07 The R9-3bP plaque should not be installed in combination with educational plaques.07A (DE Revision) Bus Stop (DART) (D4-3-DE) signs (see Figure 2B-26) should be used to identify the locations of bus stops and the routes being served by the bus stop. Bus Stop signs should be placed at the boarding location of the bus stop. Option:
07B (DE Revision) If the number of bus routes serving the bus stop exceeds three, additional panels of rectangular boxes of the same size and color may be attached at the bottom of the Bus Stop (DART) sign.07C (DE Revision) Individual jurisdictions may install signs for local public transit services. Guidance:
07D (DE Revision) Individual jurisdictions that provide their own bus stop signs should work with DTC to ensure proper signing. Option:
07E (DE Revision) Signs for other public transit services recognized by DTC may be placed on the same sign post below the Bus Stop sign. Guidance:
07F (DE Revision) On roads where parking is permitted, no parking zones should be designated with R7 Series signs (see Section 2B.46) or other appropriate signing at bus stop locations.2 Del. Admin. Code § 2B.51
