Section 108.103 - [Effective 10/18/2024] Equipment not required on a unit(a) Each item of lifesaving and firefighting equipment carried on board the unit in addition to equipment of the type required under this subchapter, must- (2) Be acceptable to the cognizant OCMI, for use on the unit.(b) Use of non-approved fire detection systems may be acceptable as excess equipment, provided that-(1) Components are listed and labeled by an independent, nationally recognized testing laboratory as set forth in 29 CFR 1910.7 , and are designed, installed, tested, and maintained in accordance with an appropriate industry standard and the manufacturer's specific guidance;(2) Installation conforms to the requirements of subchapter J of this chapter, including the hazardous location electrical installation regulations in § 111.105 of this chapter; and(3) Coast Guard plan review is completed for wiring plans.CGD 84-069, 61 FR 25291, May 20, 1996
