Section 69403.14 - Ototoxicity(a) The ototoxicity hazard trait is defined as the occurrence of adverse effects on the structure or function of the inner ear or the vestibulo-cochlear nerve, or auditory portions of the central nervous system, which could result in temporary or permanent disturbances of hearing, balance, or both following exposure to a chemical substance.(b) Toxicological endpoints for ototoxicity include, but are not limited to those indicating: hearing impairment; abnormal balance; changes to cellular components of the inner ear; change in auditory response or electrical activity in the vestibulo-cochlear nerve or auditory areas of the brain.(c) Other relevant ototoxicity data include but are not limited to: in vitro indications of ototoxicity; structural or mechanistic similarity to other chemical substances that are ototoxic.Cal.
