(a) The Department shall provide health care orientation information to each patient within 14 business days upon arrival at any institution and the information shall be available in each institution law library pursuant to section 3124.(b) The Department shall determine the patient's specific health educational requirements and provide health education materials to patients regarding disease prevention, recommended treatment modalities, and available health care resources.(c) Health care staff shall utilize every patient visit for therapeutic intervention and education. (1) Health care staff who provide patient education shall document in the health record the education provided, the patient's understanding of the information provided, and any effective communication accommodations used.(d) Each institution shall develop a Patient Education Program, to include Peer Health Care Education (PHE), designed to improve overall health literacy based on the needs identified by their patient population.(1) Patients may be referred to a PHE group by any staff member, or they may request enrollment by submitting a CDCR 7362, Health Care Services Request. The patient shall be notified of the results of the request in writing via institutional mail within 14 business days of the request.Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 15, § 3999.310
