A member may designate someone other than his or her spouse to receive the benefits provided by Code of Ala. 1975, § 36-27-16(c)(2)(3). Such designation may be made at any time but must be specific in its application to the benefits provided by § 36-27-16(c) (2)(3). If no such designation is made the spouse shall receive the benefits as provided by § 36-27-16(c)(2)(3). If a member does not have a spouse the member's general beneficiary designation shall be effective with respect to the benefits provided by § 36-27-16(c)(2)(3).
