Section 746-X-10-.03 - Scope Of Practice(1) A licensed orthotic fitter is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained in the provision of certain orthoses. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up, and practice management which is consistent with nationally recognized programs accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. A licensed orthotic fitter shall only fit non-custom orthoses. The practice of a licensed orthotic fitter includes, but is not limited to:
(a) Assessment of prescription or patient's needs for orthoses includes, but is not limited to, the evaluation of the following: (b) Formulation of a treatment plan based upon an assessment to alleviate limitations and enhance function. The orthotic fitter's treatment includes, but is not limited to: 1. verification of prescription/documentation2. consultation with and/or referral to other healthcare professionals(c) Implementation of the orthotic fitter's treatment plan includes, but is not limited to: 1. Acquisition of physical assessment data2. Adjustments to accommodate individual anatomic contours4. Patient education and instruction(d) Utilization of a follow-up treatment plan that ensures successful orthotic outcomes, patient health and quality of life which includes, but is not limited to:1. documentation of functional changes2. formulation of modifications to ensure successful outcomes3. confirmation of patient education and instruction(e) Compliance with practice management plans to develop and document policies and procedures to ensure patient well being which includes, but is not limited to:1. adherence to applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations2. following patient care guidelines and procedures3. maintaining a safe and professional environment for patient care4. understanding claims development and submission(f) Promotion of competency and enhancement of orthotic professional practice to contribute to the profession's body of knowledge includes, but is not limited to, participation in:2. promotion of public awareness of the profession3. consumer organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizationsAla.
