Section 360-X-8-.01 - Certified Airport Firefighter
(1) Requirements.
(a) The candidate shall be certified as a Firefighter II.
(b) The candidate must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
(c) The candidate must meet the requirements of the Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operational level.
(d) Examination. There will be an examination for state certification provided by the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission.
1. An overall score of 70% is required for the successful completion of this examination.
2. Re-test may be taken after 30 days and within 12 months of the date of the original examination for state certification.
3. All certification testing, to include re-testing, must be completed within 12 months of the course completion date.
(2) Administration.
(a) Scope. This standard identifies the level of professional competence required of the airport firefighter for aircraft rescue and fire fighting.
(b) Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to specify, in terms of performance objectives, the minimum requirements of competence required for service as an airport firefighter.
1. It is not the intent of this standard to restrict any jurisdiction from exceeding these minimum requirements.
(c) General.
1. The candidate shall meet all of the requirements of this standard before being certified as an airport firefighter.
2. Each performance objective for the airport firefighter shall be performed swiftly, safely, and with competence. Each objective shall be met in its entirety.
3. It is not required that the objectives be mastered in the order they appear.
(3) Objectives
(a) The objectives of this standard are based on the ability of the Firefighter I to demonstrate knowledge and skills as outlined in the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission Teaching Outline for Airport Firefighter, current edition.
