The applicant requests a permit to import one male and one female captive-born giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) from Wolong, China for the purpose of scientific research and enhancement of the survival and propagation of the species. This application was published for public comment on Thursday August 17, 2000. Comments were accepted until on September 18, 2000. We are re-opening the comment period for 30-days to allow the public an opportunity to review and comment on information received from the Zoo on September 18, 2000.
