    ACTION:

    Direct final rule; confirmation of effective date.

    SUMMARY:

    The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is confirming the effective date of November 19, 2024, for the direct final rule that was published in the Federal Register on September 5, 2024. The direct final rule amended its spent fuel storage regulations by revising the Holtec International HI-STORM 100 Cask System listing within the “List of approved spent fuel storage casks,” to include Renewed Amendment No. 18 to Certificate of Compliance No. 1014.

    Effective date: The effective date of November 19, 2024, for the direct final rule published September 5, 2024 (89 FR 72304), is confirmed.

    SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:

    On September 5, 2024 (89 FR 72304), the NRC published a direct final rule amending its regulations in part 72 of title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations to the Holtec International HI-STORM 100 Cask System listing within the “List of approved spent fuel storage casks” to include Renewed Amendment No. 18 to Certificate of Compliance No. 1014. Renewed Amendment No. 18 amends the certificate of compliance to incorporate the Holtec Report No. HI-2200343-A entitled, “Topical Report for Allowance of Heat Load Patterns in HI-STORM 100 and HI-STORM FW Systems” (ML24018A198).

    In the direct final rule, the NRC stated that if no significant adverse comments were received, the direct final rule would become effective on November 19, 2024. The NRC did not receive any comments on the direct final rule. Therefore, this direct final rule will become effective as scheduled.
