In any case where the authorities responsible for the maintenance of a road, highway, or bridge shall deem it advisable to construct or reconstruct such road, highway, or bridge, and to condemn land therefor to a greater width than now provided by law, for the purpose of providing separations of grades of highways, or construction of grade separation structures, or for the construction of "cloverleaf" connections, or in any other manner to provide adequate highways at intersections, it shall be lawful for such authority to condemn land of sufficient width for such purposes, notwithstanding the provisions of any law fixing the maximum width of roads, highways, and bridges to the contrary.
