R-1786 and R-1787, respectively SUPPLEMENTAL DECISION CERTIFICATION OF REPRESENTATIVES AND ORDER May 20, 1940 On April 12, 1940, the National Labor Relations Board issued its Decision and Direction of Elections in this proceeding., Pursuant to the Direction of Elections, elections by secret ballot were conducted on April 17, 1940, under the direction and supervision of the Regional Director for the Seventh Region (Detroit, Michigan). On May 1, 1940, the Regional Director, acting pursuant to Article III, Section 9, of National Labor Relations Board Rules and Regulations-Series 2, as amended, issued and duly served upon the parties an Election Report. No objections to the conduct of the ballot or the Election Report have been filed by any of the parties. Total number of votes against Mechanics Educational Society of America, Local 6, (Independent) ------ 97 The results of the election among the employees of General Motors Corporation in the appropriate unit at its Diesel Engine Division show that Mechanics Educational Society of America, Local 6 (Inde- pendent) has received the votes of a majority of the employees in such unit, and we will certify it as the exclusive bargaining repre- sentative of the employees in such unit. The results of the election among the employees of General Motors Corporation in the appropriate unit at its Research Laboratories Division show that no collective bargaining representative has been selected by a majority of the employees in such unit. The petition for investigation and certification of representatives filed by Me- chanics Educational Society of America, Local 6 (Independent) in Case No. R-1787 will therefore be dismissed. CERTIFICATION OF REPRESENTATIVES By virtue of and pursuant to the power vested in the National Labor Relations Board by Section 9 (c) of the National Labor Rela- tions Act, 49 Stat. 449, and pursuant to Article III, Sections 8 and 9, of National Labor Relations Board Rules and Regulations-Series 2, as amended, IT IS HEREBY CERTIFIED that Mechanics Educational Society of America, Local 6, (Independent) has been designated and selected by a majority of all hourly paid production and maintenance employees of General Motors Corporation employed at the plant of its Diesel Engine Division at Detroit, Michigan, including cribmen, janitors, GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION 1013 inspectors, heat-treatment men, assemblymen, tool makers, and boiler operators, but excluding chief engineers and shift operating engineers (engine operators) in power plants, experimental dynamometer opera- tors, experimental dynamometer test operators, experimental engine assemblyers, office employees, clerical employees, supervisory em- ployees, and salaried employees, as their representative for the pur- poses of collective bargaining and that, pursuant to the provisions of Section 9 (a)'of the Act, Mechanics Educational Society of America, Local 6, (Independent) is the exclusive representative of all such employees for the purposes of collective bargaining in respect to rates of pay, wages, hours of - employment, and other conditions ' of employment.
