Case No. R-854 CERTIFICATION OF REPRESENTATIVES October 18, 1938 On September 9, 1938, the National Labor Relations Board, herein called the Board, issued a Decision and Direction of Election in the above-entitled proceeding., On September 24, 1938, the Board issued an Amendment to Direction of Election.' The Direction of Election, as amended, provided that an election by secret ballot be conducted within twenty-two (22) days from the date of the Direction among the production employees of the California Woodturuing Company, Los Angeles, California, who were listed on the pay roll of February 10, 1938, excluding clerical and supervisory employees and those employees who had since quit or been discharged for cause, to deter- mine whether they desired to be represented by the United Furni- ture Workers of America, Local 576, Committee for Industrial Or- ganization, or by Furniture Workers Union, Local 1561, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, American Fed- eration of Labor, for the purposes of collective bargaining, or.by neither. Pursuant to the Direction of Election, as amended, an election by secret ballot was conducted under the direction and supervision of Towne Nylander, the Regional Director for the Twenty-first Region (Los Angeles, California), on September 29, 1938. Full opportunity was accorded to all the parties to this investigation to participate in the, conduct of the secret ballot and to make challenges. On Septem- ber 30, 1938, the Regional Director, acting pursuant to Article III, Section 9, of National Labor Relations Board Rules and. Regula- tions-Series 1, as amended, issued and duly served upon the parties an Intermediate Report on the election. F. of L--------------------------------------- 1 Total number of votes for neither --------------------------- 0 Total number of blank ballots------------------------------- 0 Total number of void ballots-------------------------------- 0 Total number of challenged votes---------------------------- 2 By virtue of and pursuant to the power vested in the National Labor Relations Board by Section 9 (c) of the National Labor Rela- tions Act, 49 Stat. 449, and pursuant to Article III, Sections 8 and 9, of National Labor Relations Board Rules and Regulations-Series 1, as amended, IT IS HEREBY CERTIFIED that United Furniture Workers of Anlerlca, Local 576, Committee for Industrial Organization, has been selected by a majority of the production employees of the California Wood- turning Company, Los Angeles, California, excluding clerical and supervisory employees, as their representative for the purposes of collective bargaining, and that, pursuant to Section 9 (a) of the Act, United Furniture Workers of America, Local 576, Committee for Industrial Organization, is the exclusive representative of all such employees for the purposes of collective bargaining in respect' to rates of pay, wages, hours of employment, and other conditions of employment.
